2015 – 2016 – 2017   Sampari

Sampari, meaning the Morning Star, is a series of events built around an art exhibition focussing on the aspirations of the West Papuan peoples to stand as an independent nation. The Sampari is featured on their flag and symbolises West Papua’s struggle for self-determination despite the occupation and exploitation of her land and the killing of her people by the Indonesian state for over 60 years.
The Sampari exhibitions were held by the Women’s Office at the Federal Republic of West Papua office in Docklands, Melbourne and held at the ACU Gallery Fitzroy.
