2009 Pelican Dreams

Peter has been inspired in this series by his love of the Western Port side of the Peninsula and his passion for the birds that call Hastings home – the humble pelicans. Awkward in gait, a big bird but still shy, lumbering to get take-off, yet elegant and powerful in flight. And what landings they make! We take the pelicans for granted but they are a fascinating part of God’s varied creation and give reward to those who study them. In my paintings I occasionally let them visit other places. In Hastings there is a regular crew, and they know all the hang-outs to get a free feed from the fisherman coming back from a day out.
This exhibition was shown at the Mermaids Tale Gallery and Café, Hastings, in Feb/Mar 2009. Sadly since then it has been demolished.
